Violet Walker Hanley (nee MacLachlan), 91, passed into eternal life March 29, 2015.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Scottish immigrates – a heritage she cherished and embraced.

It is hard to crystallize in a paragraph or two, Violet’s life.

She was married to Clark Hanley in 1943 and they had two beautiful children. Her husband’s career took them to many cities around the US.

In the early 60s she became one of the original single/homemakers and gave meaning to reinventing yourself. She secured a teller position at the local bank in the small Indiana town of Carmel, IN to support her two young children. She became well respected in Carmel and created the design and supervised the city’s Christmas decorations.

Once her children had grown, she moved to Florida to be closer to her father. She once again renewed herself with a career spanning 20 years in dental offices in Venice and Sarasota.

She was beautiful with brilliant blue eyes and an infectious smile. She was a gracious hostess. She was creative, tenacious, strong, intelligent, and generous with her love and time. A devoted single mother, grandmother and mother-in-law.

She was preceded by her parents, sister and son-in- law Daniel Levy. She leaves to celebrate her legacy her daughter, Gayle Hanley-Levy; son, Bradford Hanley; granddaughter, Brenna Hanley; daughter-in-law, Joan Hanley; step-grandsons; Michael (Ivy) Levy and Alan (Tasha) Levy and two step-great grandchildren, Paul and E.J. She will also be missed by many lifelong and recently found genuine friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Salvation Army.

Vi’s wish was that at her passing we all celebrate her life with a party, laughter and champagne. Please share a bottle of your favorite champagne with your family and friends and raise your glass to our forever blossoming Violet.
